Beauty and The Geek: 2012 Fashion Trends

Now that the new year is here, it isn’t difficult to guess that everyone who is as geeky about fashion as I am is seeking out the newest and hottest fashion trends for the year. But if you don’t have time to go scouring fashion blogs to see what’s going to make you stand out this winter, don’t worry! I’ve gathered up some of my favorite fashion trends for 2012 to share here with you right now!
- The Little Red Dress – We’re all aware of the little black dress, a staple in any woman’s wardrobe, but here’s something new, fun, and colorful: the little red dress. A vivid red dress can catch the eye, turn heads, and make you look and feel as glamorous as a Hollywood actress is airbrushed to be. Best of all? Little red dresses go with all sorts of accessories: gold or silver jewelry, black shoes and purses, and so on. Make it yours!
- Pale Yellow – I first came across this looking at some of Stella McCartney’s fashion, and I just love it. Pale yellow looks great on most any skin type, and it can be layered over black or white, and accentuated with blue or green accessories to really make the color pop.
- Bright Pink Purses – I’ve been holding on to my pink Coach purse for years now, and finally it’s time to bring it out to play with the big girls! Hot pink gives a shocking color that’s sure to turn heads, and using it as an every day accessory like your purse will really add some color and life to your outfit, no matter what you’re wearing (especially if you’re like me and you’re wearing business or business casual clothes most of the time).
- Color Blocks – Designers all over the board are bringing out collections that feature very striking and bold blocks of color. Color blocks are flattering on most any body type and can be very versatile if you want to pair up different pieces to maximize your wardrobe.
- Short Suits – Skirts are out, my powerful business lady friends! Instead, designers are creating suits with shorts, which will definitely be a welcome change of pace, especially in the summer. Suits with capris are also sneaking their way in, so if you’re like me and prefer a longer pant, that may be the look for you.
It’s an exciting year for fashion, that’s for sure, and I look forward to seeing what else 2012 has in store for all of us, whether you’re a fashionista or just a geek trying to look your best.
