Trailer Park: All the Movies You Want To See Ever

We haven’t done Trailer Park in a while, but in exchange for that here you have probably our greatest edition ever! New movies from (drumroll) Christopher Nolan, Peter Jackson, Ridley Scott, and Joss Whedon. And the director of Seabiscuit. These are the movies the internets are talking about right now, all in one convenient spot:

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Lots of dwarf singing! Gollum! Galadriel, for some reason! This looks exactly like another Lord of the Rings movie, and honestly that’s all I wanted. They’re keeping the action back for right now, but dwarf singing is enough to keep me happy. And is it me, or does Martin Freeman sound exactly like Ian Holm in this one?

The Dark Knight Rises

What I find interesting about this trailer is how little Batman is actually in it. But Bane blowing up Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field standing in for Gotham Stadium or whatever during a football game is already iconic internet imagery, and the movie doesn’t come out for another seven months. One thing that did surprise me here was how on board I was with Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman role… she has essentially the trailer’s main speaking role, and she nails it. Also interesting is the content of her speech, which is very “the masses vs. the rich”… are we going to see a flood of timely themes in blockbusters the next year or so?

The Hunger Games

As opposed to the some of the other trailers here, I think that this one is mostly exciting if you’ve read the source material. But as a big fan of the YA novels by Suzanne Collins upon which this movie is based, I am happy that it seems just about how I imagined it, and Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar nominee (and Mystique), seems to be doing a very good job as the books’ POV character, Katniss Everdeen, complete with badass archery skills. Similarly to the last two trailers, this one leaves off many of the biggest action bits, so it’ll be fun to watch them in the theaters. The movie does look a little cheap, to be honest, but most of it takes place in the woods or in a crappy post-apocalyptic society, so how was is it supposed to look? I’d be interested to hear what other fans think.

Prometheus

Recently we had the chance to see what Martin Scorsese could do in 3D with Hugo, and it was amazing. Now comes another great director, Ridley Scott of Alien and Blade Runner fame, returning to science fiction with a film shot in 3D. And while this trailer may only be a minute long, it may be the most exciting trailer in this post. Nobody’s sure at this point what Prometheus is really about, but it does star Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, and Noomi Rapace, along with lots of things blowing up. Seriously, just watch it.

The Cabin in the Woods

After at least a year and a half of delays, we’re apparently finally going to get to see this “horror movie to end all horror movies,” as the billing goes, in early 2012. The trailer mostly convinces me that this is a) a weird, probably hard to sell movie and b) it’s a movie with a lot going on in its head, which may not always appeal to your average slasher horror fan, but there you go. Cabin in the Woods was was co-written by geek guru Joss Whedon and marks the directorial debut of Drew Goddard, a screenwriter who made his debut many years back on, yes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It stars Chris Hemsworth, though this movie’s so old it was actually filmed before he became famous from Thor, with Whedon regulars Amy Acker and Fran Kranz also in the cast.

That’s all for right now, but we’re sure to see more trailers soon… 2012′s shaping up to be a better year for movies than 2011!
