Winter Preview 2011 – Movies 3: The Last Moviegoer

We’ve finally come to the end of our thrilling trilogy. There was sadness and tears, laughter and joy, action and adventure, and Daniel Craig’s abs. Now, we take a look at the last of winter and take a sneak peek at what’s coming in January of 2012 as we finish up the movie portion of Geek Life’s Winter Roundup.
January
The Devil Inside
Apparently Paramount Pictures didn’t get the memo that Halloween weekend would have been a good time for a horror movie, but that’s okay. We can ring in the new year with not one horror movie, but two (the other horror movie coming out on the same day is The Possession, which you can Google). Isabella Rossi (Fernanda Andrade) seeks to understand the truth about what happened one fateful night in 1989, when emergency responders received a 9-1-1 call from Isabella’s mother, Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley), confessing that she had brutally killed three people. 20 years later, Isabella travels to the Centrino Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Italy where her mother has been locked away to find out if her mother is really mentally ill — or if she has been demonically possessed. When she recruits two young exorcists (Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth [Editor's Note: Won't lie, totally read that as "Hellmouth"]) to cure her mom using unconventional methods combining both science and religion, they come face-to-face with pure evil in the form of not one, not two, not three, but four powerful demons possessing Maria.
The Devil Inside unleashes itself on theaters January 6, 2012.
Beauty and the Beast 3D
Following in the footsteps of the recent re-release of The Lion King, Disney has digitally remastered the classic “tale as old as time” and will bring it to the big screen once again — this time in 3D. I don’t think I need to tell you the plot to Beauty and the Beast — and if I do, then I feel very sad for you. Very sad, indeed.
Beauty and the Beast 3D makes its way to theaters (also in 2D) on January 13, 2012.
The Grey
This movie will either be incredibly awesome or incredibly stupid. Dan and I saw a preview for this in the movie theater before seeing In Time, and just kind of looked at each other. “Is this movie… basically… Liam Neeson fights wolves?” I whispered. “Pretty much,” was Dan’s answer. So, yeah. Liam Neeson fights wolves. January really is pretty barren when all we’ve got to offer you is a horror movie, a Disney re-release, and a movie where Liam Neeson breaks bottles and holds them between his fingers like Wolverine’s claws to face off with a wolf.
You can catch this epic battle on January 27, 2012.
As mentioned above, January is fairly barren as far as movies go — for right now, anyway. We may see some more movies crop up for January release as we get closer to the new year. For now, I hope you enjoyed the movie portion of Geek Life’s Winter Preview — and don’t forget to check out the video game and television bits as well!
