Geek Beat: Twitter Catch-Ups

Remember my huge Twitter meltdown last year? Yeah you do! Don’t play me! Well, slowly but surely, I have melted back into the Twitter world. Yes, there are concessions. While my account is open, I only follow a small group of good friends. Happy, healthy friends.

In my city, one café has embraced Twitter in a big way. Mooba (You may remember I wrote about it once upon a time), is the place to go for all Twitter enthusiasts. An absolute no-go for anyone who has had a Twitter meltdown. Well, in-between home Internet connections and absolutely gagging for net access I wandered down to Mooba and found a quiet corner.

It didn’t take long to be recognised. Within a few minutes I discovered a girl at the next table who knew a whole lot about my personal history while, as usual, I was at a loss as to who she even was! A quick search on Twitter, and I recognised her avatar — but I don’t follow her.

My new friend, lets call her @kirstimelville, introduces her female companion, another Twitter lover! Kirsti and Sarah (@saraphimsp) were meeting for coffee and a catch-up, having met each other through Twitter!

Not long after enjoying my Latté and my breakfast, other tweeps sat across from me. While I absolutely loved the guy in my immediate view, his companion was a contributor to my Twitter distress. Awkward! The public squirming through these moments is always difficult, but as she chose to not turn around while I talked to the always lovely @sebsharp, living up to her promise to live as if I never existed, public squirming was avoided.

Using the free wifi to record this post means I can’t tell you how this story ends but, it’s amazing what someone will do for net access! But I can safely say I’m now following another two great people on Twitter!

About Jason

Jason is an amateur writer, amateur comedian and amateur author from the down-under land of convicts, Australia. He hopes one day he will be paid for at least one of those things so he can rub out the amateur and earn money for more Apple products. When he’s not not being paid for doing what he loves, Jason is a father of three young kids and supports his geek qualifications by schooling newbs about why Facebook is so 2007 at every opportunity. Jason discovered coffee at 30 so he thinks he is a grown up now. If he could marry his iPhone he would.
