Surfing Drama: House – “The Fix”
These spoilers for this week’s episode of House worked — in rats…

This episode spends a lot of time trying to convince us that House is on heroin. This really isn’t the case. Instead, he’s using an experimental drug that they’re testing on rats, stealing it from the lab whenever he can distract the scientists. All it takes for him to decide the drug is making him feel better is getting in a bar fight. Of course, the fact that the rats in the test are dying is foreboding, but not really enough to make anyone care.
Meanwhile, the patient of the week is a scientist that builds bombs and is dying from some unknown ailment. As it turns out, her boyfriend was poisoning her with Spanish Fly. I guess that’s what she gets for sleeping around.
Also going on in this episode, House refuses to pay Wilson $50 he lost in a bet because he thinks the fighter is sick and therefore that makes the bet null and void. Wilson (who does an awesomely weird robot-fighter dance while trying to claim his money) gives House a day to prove his theory. I love that Wilson has a Vertigo movie poster in his office. It does make me sad that House chose that poster to bust.
In the end, House figures out that something is wrong with the kid that lost and gets his money back from Wilson. “You’re not going to be like that, because you have a lot more posters.”
Overall a decent episode, about average for this season. Like I did for over 40 issues of Matt Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man, I keep holding onto this show and waiting for something good. It’s just not happening; and I’m not sure I can give this series a chance next season — something incredible is going to have to happen in the season finale to change my mind.
