Surfing Comedy: Thursday Night Roundup

There were a lot of great shows on last night to tickle your fancy, if that’s the sort of thing that floats your boat. Thursday is generally one of those great comedy nights, after all. I figured since I offered to cover this week’s Community, and I wanted to write about this week’s Big Bang Theory and The Office — with Michael Scott’s goodbye — as well, I would roll everything up into one neat little post for your reading enjoyment.

As always, spoilers can and will abound.

Big Bang Theory: “The Agreement Dissection”

Sheldon sort of freaks out after he catches Priya in the shower with Leonard, but Priya (a lawyer) soon pokes holes in Sheldon’s room mate agreement. This causes some sulking by Sheldon that leads to him going out drinking (milk in his case) and dancing (waltzing) with Amy, Bernadette and Penny.

Later, back at Amy’s place, Sheldon tries to have a rational conversation with an inebriated Amy, which leads to her kissing him, then rushing to the bathroom to throw up “on and off for forty minutes” before passing out. The discussion they have does inspire Sheldon, however, and he winds up blackmailing Leonard into signing a new room mate agreement by threatening to tell Priya’s parents about their relationship. Overall, a really fun episode. Nice to see a little more of Sheldon after the Leonard/Priya-intense episode focus lately.

-Sheldon’s response to Amy asking if he’d like to come in for a nightcap: “If you’re referring to the hat you wear while holding a candle, I already have one.”
-”You’re like a sexy toddler.”

The Office: “Goodbye, Michael Scott”

“It’s just sometimes, goodbyes are a bitch.” I have watched the US version of The Office on and off since the beginning, so this episode was definitely one I had to watch. Overall, the episode was very touching, with a few really great bits, like with Oscar pretending to love a creepy scarecrow that Michael made for him (which of course was a joke), Michael finally giving Dwight the respect he’s been pining for, and a really touching scene between Michael and Jim. And, of course, paintball!

Oh, and Gabe threatening Andy by telling him he has over 200 horror movies.

Goodbye, Michael Scott, you will be missed.

-”After what you did to me, you expect to be buttled?!”
-”Where did you hear that? Obvious XM Radio?”
-”It looks like it was made by a two-year-old monkey on a farm.”
-”I’m not going to start improv at Level 1, I don’t think my credits will transfer.”

Community: “Applied Anthropology and Culinary Arts”

The Dean sits in on Professor Duncan’s fake anthropology final exam, to which he excuses himself to retrieve the exam from his office since the class is just one big excuse to get drunk (and see John Oliver. I love that man). Pierce wants to buy Abed and Troy’s handshake for $1000, and when he does, he proceeds to ruin it, making it feel dirty to use.

Oh, and Shirley goes into labor in the middle of the final exam. It’s heavily implied that Chang is the father, but it turns out the baby isn’t, and is normal. I love that it’s Britta that delivers the baby. “Guys, I’ve got it, I’m in the zone!”

There are a lot of fun bits in this episode, and although it’s not the greatest episode ever, it’s definitely worth watching if, for nothing else, Pierce’s corruption of Abed and Troy’s handshake. Don’t worry, the birth of Shirley’s baby restores it.

-”Throw paper balls at her head until she sits down!”
-”And THAT is what Jews do at weddings. Anthropology!”
-”I didn’t even know there was a difference between North and South Korean barbecue!”
