Review: Chuck Fischer Holiday eBook Apps

Last week, I had the pleasure of reviewing the steampunk eBook A Christmas Carol by Padworx Digital Media. This week, I was lucky enough to get my hands on two more iPad eBooks for the holiday season: Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and Clement Clarke Moore’s Twas the Night Before Christmas, both illustrated by bestselling pop-up book author and artist Chuck Fischer.

Both eBooks are well done, with Fischer’s beautiful illustrations really taking the center stage. A Christmas Carol features 92 pages of original (and often breath-taking) art by Fischer with 12 full-page animations and around 40 interactive illustrations, not to mention professional-sounding voice-overs.

Twas the Night Before Christmas has 10 interactive pages with original art by Fischer and is narrated by actor Victor Garber (Jack Bristow on Alias). You can either choose to read the poem or listen to Garber’s narration. You can touch the pages, or tilt and turn the iPad to interact with them.

These are both pretty good apps that are fun and easy to use. Both would be great ways to share these classic holiday stories with one’s children, and Twas the Night Before Christmas would be especially great for younger children because of the fun story of Moore’s poem and the interactivity of all of the pages.

Both apps are currently available for download on iTunes. A Christmas Carol is $4.99 and Twas the Night Before Christmas is $3.99. These are both great family-oriented apps that are fun holiday-season investments.
