Geek News: Angry Birds to get movie treatment?

Arguably one of the most popular games to be released on the iPhone so far, it’s been rumoured that the studio behind “Angry Birds” is looking to expand the franchise past an inevitable sequel, and invade the TV, movie, toy and comic market.

Speaking to Variety, the CEO of Rovio Mobile, told them that “it doesn’t make sense (to produce a slate of different games) when you have a hit of any calibre.”

“When you create brand equity, to do that again would be a difficult task rather than nurture and build around what you have.”

Launching on the iTunes App Store December of last year, it’s been reported to have sold excess of 6.5 million copies of the full-paid version alone, while numbers of the free demo almost double at 11 million.

“Angry Birds” is available to download for the iPhone and iPad and costs just $0.99 and £0.59, respectively.

Hollywood really is scraping barrel between this and Battleship the movie (yes based on the game >.<) and the Fred movie from Nickleodeon…sigh if they gave me a million dollar budget i would make the most bad ass movie ever!! Even if no one knew what the hell was going on…I'm thinking Pirates and Ninjas and Vampires and Zombies oh dear god it would be GLORIOUS!!
