Geek News: Third Doctor Who Game out Friday
The third instalment in the Doctor Who: The Adventure Games series is slated for release this coming Friday, August 27th.
“TARDIS” will see players explore beyond the Console Room, something which in the series proper since it’s revival in 2005 we’ve seen very little of bar The Wardrobe that featured in David Tennant’s first episode, “The Christmas Invasion”.
The new game also marks the first appearance of the “Doctor’s wondrous drawing, featuring treasures and artefacts from his many adventures – a location specially created for the game, which will go on to form part of the Doctor Who canon.”
Whether this means we could see this set recreated in the next TV season of the show, currently scheduled for spring 2011, remains to be seen but is quite promising.
It’s also been revealed that the game will “give players the opportunity to pilot” the TARDIS.
Singing the games’ praises was show-runner, Steven Moffat – “Since 1963, kids have wondered what it would be like to control the TARDIS. Now we’re handing complete control of the most powerful ship in all of space and time to a generation of children. Everybody duck!’ He also told us, ‘TARDIS is a brilliant, brilliant adventure. It’s funny, touching, terrifying, amazing – everything a Doctor Who episode should be.”
The game will be available for free to residents in the UK this Friday, and will see simultaneous release on both PC and Mac; plus, gamers outside the UK will be able to buy and download “TARDIS” on the same day.
Look out for a Geek-Life review next week.
