American partner with the BBC, Starz, has revealed that the new ten-part Torchwood series dubbed “The New World”, will follow CIA agent Rex Matheson who “finds himself unearthing a threat which challenges the entire human race [while] investigation a global conspiracy.”

They also went some way as to telling how Captain Jack and Gwen will re-enter the franchise.

Raising her new baby, Anwen, in Wales with her husband Rhys, Gwen is “bored since the fall of Torchwood and pines for her former, extraordinary life” and she will come across a “new, epic danger that will push her to the limit.”

As for Jack, he finds his way back to Earth, last seen in an alien bar in David Tennant’s last episode as the Timelord in “Doctor Who: The End of Time”, and “is drawn back to the Torchwood Institute by his unstated love for Gwen.”

This new outing for the Torchwood team is scheduled to air in 2011 on BBC One and Starz, in the UK and US respectively.
