Comic Quick Pick – Week of August 18
It’s another week, and that means it’s time for more comics! How did you guys fare last week? Aside from the things on my pull list last week — Except One #1, which my new LCS did not have (the audacity of these guys, seriously. I should go back to my old LCS, but they’re so far out of the way from where I work and live) — I also picked up Iron Man #29. You already knew this, though, because you’ve been reading this site for two months and that is more than sufficient to know that I am kind of in love with Tony Stark.
But enough about that bearded, black-haired, blue-eyed hunk (yes, he has blue eyes. Don’t you argue with me, people who became fans of the comic after watching the movie), let’s talk comics!
American Vampire #6 – I only read the first two issues of this, but since it’s mostly self-contained stories within each issue, that’s okay. So, why do I need to pick up this issue after such a hiatus? Well, the story involves vampires in Las Vegas around 1935, the same year that the Hoover Dam was finished with construction, which is when the city really started to grow. If it was me, I would have made it Las Vegas in the 1950s, when the mob ruled the city, but I digress.
Avengers & Infinity Gauntlet #1 of 4 – Thanos has the Infinity gems! Who would give that guy the Infinity Gems, anyway? Seems like a poor decision to me. Ah well, at least now that Thanos has destroyed half the world’s population, the Avengers can step in and go toe to toe with everyone’s favorite purple villain (no, not Galactus. Are you even paying attention?).
Batman Beyond #3 of 6 – After reading the first two issues of this, I am absolutely looking forward to the third. It’s a shame that this is only a limited series, because I’m loving the story. Batman Beyond was one of my favorite cartoons of its time, and I really dig this more “grown-up” version of the same story premise. Who will be the mysterious killer’s next target? And is the investigation into this string of heinous crimes causing a rift in Terry’s relationship with Bruce?
X-Files: 30 Days of Night #2 – Okay, I never even got to see the first issue of this, so now I’ll have to pick up both. Whoever thought of combining the X-Files with 30 Days of Night is a genius. Apparently Mulder and Skully have made their way to investigate some ritual killings in Alaska. Things turn interesting as they discover a lone survivor; is she a witness, or is she connected to the carnage? Could this be the best crossover of the year? I hope so!
That’s my list for this week! Flash #5, Green Lantern Corps #51, and Brightest Day #8 are also coming out this week, and I will most likely pick those two up as well. Let’s not forget about Secret Avengers #4. Oh, and if you’re into Star Trek the original series, IDW is releasing their Star Trek Original Series Omnibus; it collects Star Trek: Year For, Enterprise Experiment, Klingsons: Blood Will Tell, and the Alien Spotlights that focused on TOS.
I think that about does it for me this time around. What’s on your pull list this week?
