Tales from the Vault – Recent History
I intended to blog about my history in video games, but I had a fun experience that I wanted to share from California Extreme, which I will be writing a review on soon. This made me very happy last night.
We were at the one import game vendor table at California Extreme last night, and I saw something Dan, my husband, would want very much: Gunstar Heroes for Game Gear. Dan is a huge Gunstar Heroes fan. I’d wager that it’s his favorite game ever. He has multiple versions of it already, but one we didn’t have is the Game Gear version. I personally didn’t remember it existed!
Dan came over to the table and scooped it up right away, but lamented that we don’t have the money for it (which we really didn’t) and put it down. I decided to get sneaky at that point, so while Dan was on the other side of the table, I haggled a bit and bought it for him. I’d just managed to hide the receipt and the game when he made it back over.
Here’s how the conversation went:
Dan: Where’s the game? Did someone buy it?
Me: Yeah, just now while you were on the other side.
Dan: Really? That sucks, I was going to buy it. Someone really bought it?
Me: I saw it happen. I’m sorry, boy.
Dan: (looking thoughtful for a moment, and then suspicious) Wait, did you buy it?
This is where he had me. I cannot lie to my husband’s face. At all. So I swallowed hard, admitted it, and pulled the game out of my bag. He promptly asked me what I paid for it and how, so later I told him about my secret plan to save money to buy him a nice gift for our upcoming 5th Wedding Anniversary in September.
Well, needless to say, my husband is very happy about his gift, and I’m happy for having done something to make him happy. Besides, Gunstar Heroes is a friggin’ cool game and is a welcome addition to the Vault!
