Geek News: Green Lantern’s Costume Revealed

Entertainment Weekly has released a teaser picture of its cover for this week’s issue, and it has none other than Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern gracing its cover.

If Christopher over at our affiliate site The Homeworld thought that Odin looks bad in the upcoming Thor movie, wait until he sees this:

Green Lantern

My initial thought is that, apparently, Ryan Reynolds looks a lot like Ben Stiller when he’s wearing a mask. Secondly, this is, well, ugly. They couldn’t have done a worse job with the costuming if they’d chosen to focus on Kyle Rayner instead of Hal Jordan. I think I understand what they’re trying to do, but it just doesn’t seem to be working. Since the whole costume is CGI, hopefully they can make some changes to give it more appeal.

Entertainment Weekly lands on shelves tomorrow, July 16th, and promises a behind-the-scene look at more of the making of the Green Lantern movie.

I believe the term is fugly. There hasn’t been such a travesty of a superhero movie costume since nipples on the Batsuit.

  • Tiarra

I have to agree completely, Brad.

And it’s sartorial drama day on Geek Life. Also, and this is coming from a guy who has “Green Lantern” on his pull list, what’s the big drama? My initial reaction, while not particularly wowed, was basically “yeah, looks like the Green Lantern.” I like that it’s all CGI and glows and in no way resembles Sean Maher’s costume from Warehouse 13 this week. And there are more pictures out, which I would say are more happy-making than this. Check ‘em out: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/07/15/more-green-lantern-pics-arrive/

The problem is that it’s ugly, Dan. Also note that the other “happy” pictures don’t have him in costume. Just sayin’.

Well, as the Twilight Zone taught us, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

  • Tiarra

This is true. :) Hopefully it’ll look better in action than it does in stills.

Ok, so, I think I’ve made it readily apparent to my friends that GL is my favorite character, and I was super excited for this film… While there is still some excitement, part of it died seeing this. To me, it looks less like Green Lantern and more like Spawn. I’ll have an OpEd piece about it for this weekend, once I’ve taken more time to think, and cool off.

the beauty is since its CG they can change it in post-production…if they give a rip about the fan reaction. I like the overall idea however it would be nice if they add in the more traditional color scheme. Also make it less like the crysis cryo-suit
