Geek News: New Droid X Ad Pokes Fun at iPhone

There are a lot of things that Droid does, and now “taking a jab at the iPhone” can be counted among them.

Earlier this week, Verizon took out a full-page ad in The New York Times for it’s newest Android device, the Droid X. The ad included the generic information one might expect on a cell phone ad, including tech specifications – but it also included one extra bit of copy that not-so-subtly poked fun at the iPhone 4 and its recently much-discussed antenna-related interference issues.

And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.

Whoever wrote the copy for the ad was having a bit too much fun, I think, but with everything from antenna blockages to “you’re holding it wrong,” the iPhone might deserve a little teasing – and, well, now that the iPhone does multitasking like the Droid does, there would be a need for a different advertising approach.

Let’s just hope that this doesn’t interfere with Apple’s decision-making process when it comes time to decide if the iPhone will make Verizon its new home.

For those interested, here’s a copy of the ad in question:
